FAQs

Frequently asked questions

If the wrong order is delivered to the customer, what will the seller do?
If the seller has shipped the wrong product, then seller is responsible to refund to the buyer without return pick up or with a return pick up. The choice of whether to pick up or not will be of the seller. The cost of return pick up will have to be borne by the seller. Under the E-Commerce Rules, 2020, Clause (6)(3), sellers cannot refuse to take goods or refuse refund, in case the product delivered is not the same as advertised or agreed to be bought by the buyer.
What is the guidance on how to handle Seller NPs with the transaction failure rate is high?
First step for the Buyer NP is to establish that transaction failure rate is on account of the seller NPs implementation. Thereafter, Buyer NP should set and publicly declare thresholds of transaction failure rate from seller NPs. If a seller NP has transaction failure rate lower than that set by the Buyer NP, then Buyer NPs have the following options- it may not display the search results from that seller NP. Alternatively, it may have a standard BFF and offer a rebate to seller NPs who are above the threshold. For e.g., 5% Buyer Finder Fee for all and 3% BFF for seller NPs with less than 2% transaction failure.
What do I do to get my Name on Website as an NP / TSP / etc.?
You will have to follow the steps mentioned in the Pre-Prod to Prod guide. If you are a TSP, then you would need an NP who would have to undergo process as per Pre-Prod to Prod guide and Go Live in Prod for yourself to be listed on the website as a TSP.
I do not have a returnable / cancellable product, Do I still need to implement return / cancellation flow?
Yes. A seller may specify that the product is not returnable – this shall mean that the product is ineligible for No Questions Asked Return. However, all products are returnable if the product is defective or damaged. For e.g., Packaged food products sold after best before date on the package. Also, sellers must not misuse the non-cancellable flag and are encouraged to mark only made to order products like food prepared on order or silk sarees weaved on order, as non-cancellable. All other products ordered are generally expected by buyers to be cancellable pre shipment. In the extreme case in the event of a buyer’s refusal to accept a made to order product, the order needs to be marked as cancelled with reason code of buyer’s refusal to accept or not being found. If the order is marked as cancelled with the correct reason code, then then the buyer APP shall still be required to pay the seller APP. In no case should such an order be marked as delivered. Hence, cancellation flows are mandatory to be implemented. Under the E-Commerce Rules, 2020, Clause (6)(3), sellers cannot refuse to take goods or refuse refund, in case the product delivered is not the same as advertised or agreed to be bought by the buyer or if such goods or services are delivered late from the stated delivery schedule
How and where can I see my payable amount after deduction. Is there any Payable amount calculator?
The seller NP with which the seller is registered and through whom his store is listed to sell on the ONDC network is responsible to provide an interface where the seller should be able to see the amount payable / paid with all break ups of deductions if any. Seller NP should provide the amount receivable calculator to the seller for him to understand as to his receivable as per quote by the seller.
What is to be done if we are not receiving any response for search request?
Recommend that you validate whether other buyer apps with similar search criteria of search by city / category are receiving any search results. If other buyer apps are displaying search results in same cities and or categories, then (I) check for nack to search and evaluate if reason is technical (ii) if reason is not technical then commercial terms sent as part of search may be the possible reason for non-display of results (iii) relax commercial terms like buyer finder fee to Zero to check the results received. If no results are still received while other buyer apps have results, then the reason can only be technical. (iv) If the reason is commercial then attempt to understand the commercial terms that would be acceptable to seller apps (v) If any particular seller app is not sending search results to the buyer app, then the buyer app may approach ONDC to help assess if there’s a policy violation. Please note that Seller Apps are required to publish disclosures on criteria for accepting/rejecting search requests from Buyer Apps as required under Clause 2.4.6 (b). Buyer Apps should check these disclosures to see if the Seller App is fairly rejecting the search request. If not, then the Buyer App should raise a JIRA ticket explaining how the Seller App is unfairly not responding to the search request
What are the requirements for Customer Grievance Management?
Refer to IGM policy document on the ondc website: Chapter 6 on the page https://resources.ondc.org/governance-and-policies
What should we do to communicate to sellers regarding their settlement frequency?
Seller NPs may communicate settlement frequency of 3 times a week on Delivery + 2 days, where products are marked as non-returnable. For products marked as returnable, buyer apps currently settle payment on Return expiry + 2-day basis.
